Type 1 Diabetes has been part of my life for decades, shaping me in ways I never expected. Growing up, I didn’t have role models showing me that T1Ds could chase big dreams, take on adventures, or live boldly without compromise. What I saw was limitation, not possibility. That absence lit a fire in me—because I knew there had to be more than simply surviving with this condition.
Over the years, I’ve proven to myself that with the right mindset, preparation, and support, diabetes doesn’t have to hold us back—it can push us forward. From running marathons to climbing mountains, I’ve learned that every challenge is an opportunity to rewrite the story of what life with T1D can look like.
That’s why I started building Project InsulNation. My vision is to create what I never had: a community that inspires, encourages, and empowers T1D’s to live bold and to live free. I want others to see that their diagnosis isn’t the end of possibility—it’s the beginning of a different kind of strength.
Together, we can prove that nothing is truly off-limits.

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) threw a wrench into my life at age 21, but it also became the catalyst for a lifelong pursuit of health and optimization. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been on a mission to understand how my body functions and how to push it toward spectacular locations—from remote glaciers to some of the world’s tallest peaks.
The journey hasn’t been easy; much of what I’ve learned about managing T1D in extreme environments was discovered through trial, error, and isolation. That experience sparked my mission: to immerse myself in the T1D community and exchange the routines that help us thrive. I believe we grow most when we step outside our comfort zones. By tackling the daunting challenges of this condition head-on, we discover better management and a deeper sense of well-being.
As the co-founder of Project Insulnation and creator of T1Determined, I document the stories of the T1Ds who travel with us. Through podcasts and documentaries, we share the collective education gained on our adventures. Together, we prove to the world—and ourselves—that we are far more than our diagnosis.

No—but you do need to be realistic.
Each trip has baseline physical requirements, and preparation is part of the experience. These aren’t casual vacations, but they’re also not ego-driven sufferfests. The goal is growth, not performance.
If you’re unsure, the application process helps determine fit.
Because small groups build trust.
Keeping trips intentionally small allows for:
Better communication
Safer decision-making
Deeper connection
A stronger sense of belonging
Scaling fast would dilute what makes this work. That’s not the goal.
No.
Project InsulNation trips are shared experiences—not guided tours or coaching programs. Participants manage their own diabetes and contribute to the group dynamic. Leadership is present, but responsibility is shared.
This is about learning with people, not being led by someone.
When you travel with people who truly get it, you realize: nothing is off-limits.
-Project Insulnation
We believe growth begins where comfort ends. Whether it’s a mountain trail or managing a low, we empower each other to face challenges head-on—with boldness and belief.
We’re stronger together. Everything we do is grounded in shared experience, open support, and being surrounded by people who truly get it—because they live it too.
We don’t ignore risk—we train for it. Through education, planning, and medical support, we create freedom by building confidence, not avoiding challenge.
We show up as we are—blood sugar swings, doubts, gear malfunctions and all. Vulnerability builds trust. Perfection isn’t the goal—presence is.
We believe Type 1 Diabetes isn’t a limitation—it’s a launchpad. Every trip, story, and step forward helps rewrite what people with T1D believe is possible.
Built by and for adults with Type 1 Diabetes, we believe your diagnosis should never define your limits.
Our mission is simple: to prove that bold living is possible when courage, connection, and support come together.
We curate bucket-list adventures designed exclusively for T1Ds—combining heart-pounding challenges, breathtaking landscapes, and a built-in community that truly understands. Whether you’re scaling icy peaks, trekking through remote wilderness, or sharing stories around a fire, every experience is crafted to:
--> Shatter isolation
--> Reignite self-belief
--> Transform “what if” into “what’s next”

This is where fear turns into freedom. With the right safety, support, and camaraderie, you don’t just survive the adventure—you own it.
If you’ve ever dreamed of pushing boundaries alongside people who get it, now’s your chance. Project InsulNation is calling—and your next chapter starts here.
